Superintendent's Message

Superintendent Invites Families to Visit Schools

I ask anyone who is considering moving to the Mohawk Valley to call me for a tour of our schools, meet some of our parents and talk with some of our students. I am certain they would be impressed by what we offer, who we are and that once they've experienced Rome Schools, they'd make us their district of choice.

- Top-notch educational curriculum at all levels, including some of the finest arts, music and STEM programs anywhere.

- Graduates who are attending Ivy League Colleges and Top Ranked Public and Private Universities.

- Stories of RFA Alumni across the globe and locally doing great things at high levels of success-world class scientists, engineers, physicians, judges, Olympic and professional athletes, Successful entrepreneurs and business leaders and a Commissioner of Major League Baseball to mention a few examples.

- Partnerships with Community Organizations such as the YMCA, Jervis Library, Griffiss Institute, which offer unique programs for children and families that you, can't find elsewhere.

The best facilities, athletics and arts venues anywhere.

- A community that works together to provide for children and families

The real success story is here in Rome. Despite being one of the poorest districts in the state, The Rome City Schools and other small city district's continue to make academic progress on challenging standards, produce graduates that attend top colleges and universities including Ivy League Schools and offer exceptional programs including the Art, Music and STEM offerings and college level course work.

Rankings based on averages drown out the real story that needs to be told, underfunded small city school district's like Rome are performing well, students are beating the odds and districts like Rome are offering exceptional educational opportunities to children and families. All of this is being achieved through smart local decisions of our board and administration despite the very real fact that New York has the most disparate educational funding system in the nation.
