Today, November 24, 2015, the Rome City Police Department along with RFA Administration were made aware of a posting on social media that upon report were of concern. At the time of notification the administration determined to operate regular classes at RFA and to conduct a "Lock-Out". A lock out is a procedure that is used providing a single point of entry into and out of the building. The investigation has been conducted by the Rome Police Department and it was determined at 10:30am that RFA should resume regular operations.
Third and fifth grade students in the Rome City School District will have the opportunity to participate in the third annual Cursive Writing Contest, which kicked off this month and will run through Friday, May 6, 2016. “Students in grades 3 and 5 can write a persuasive speech, article, or essay encouraging a change in their school, community, or world.
Mrs. Nisiewicz's Senior English classes have been discussing poverty in the United States. As a result, they decided to put a change jar out to collect money for Thanksgiving and raised $81.00! That money was used to purchase seven turkeys, which were donated to the Rome Rescue Mission.
The Second Grade Choir at Fort Joy presented two fall concerts on November 3rd. “The students performed for the Fort Joy learning community in the afternoon and then again for family and friends in the evening,” said Music Teacher, Diane Vicik.
Backpacks and school supplies are tools essential for students to succeed in the classroom. The Rome based charity Front of the Class hoped to provide these tools to in need kids through its Meet the Need for Backpacks Program. In June, the first year program delivered 175 backpacks of schools supplies to the Rome City School District for students for the start of the school year in September.
The Rome Free Academy Chapter of the National Honor Society inducted sixty-five new members with a ceremony at the school on Wednesday, November 4th. The candle light ceremony began with a procession, led by marshalls, Camryn Stamboly and Aaron DiMezzo, followed by the current National Honor Society officers, current members, and the new inductees. The RFA JROTC cadets present the flag for the Pledge of Allegiance and the Star Spangled Banner sung by Sarah Chien and Sidnee Lenaghen, led by Mrs. Michelle Rushford-Madonia.
